Hear Duke University Health System President and CEO's Story of Leadership

Find out what A. Eugene Washington, Duke University's chancellor for health affairs and the president and CEO of the Duke University Health System, has learned about leadership and talent.

Washington is recognized nationally for his work assessing medical technologies, translating research into health policy, and shaping health care practices. A respected clinical investigator and health policy scholar, Washington has helped lead efforts to shape health care policy guidelines for prenatal genetics, cervical cancer prevention, and screening.

Previously, Dr. Washington served as vice chancellor of Health Sciences, dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, and CEO of the UCLA Health System from 2010 - 2015. Before UCLA, he worked at his alma mater, the University of California, San Francisco, where he took on positions of increasing responsibility including serving as executive vice chancellor and provost from 2004 - 2010.
