Get Involved at YPN Spring Service Day
YPN Service Days are a great chance for YPN members to give back to our community, learn about a new organization, and get to know other young professionals. The Community Involvement Task Force has organized our first Service Day of 2012 on the morning of Friday, April 20.
Members can sign up for a volunteer activity with one of the following organizations (detailed information can be found below):

Detailed Information
1. Easter Seals UCP North Carolina
What the organization does: Easter Seals UCP North Carolina is a lifelong partner to people managing disabilities and mental health challenges. Why volunteer: Because you can make a difference in the lives of children and adults with disabilities and help them achieve their goals. Location: 5171 Glenwood Ave., Suite 400, Raleigh Activity: Indoor, office, and organizing activities, including assisting with preparation for upcoming events Triangle Golf Classic on April 30 and Triangle Walk With Me on May 5. What to wear: Comfortable, neat clothing. Time: 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
2. Boys & Girls Clubs
What the organization does: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County offer young people a range of fun and educational activities. Seven clubs are open each day after school from 2:30 to 8 p.m., providing a positive and safe environment where young people can connect with trained and caring staff and reach their goals. Why volunteer: Volunteers are invaluable assets to the organization. Volunteers help the Boys & Girls Clubs better prepare our youth for success thanks to your time, energy, and expertise. Location: 701 N. Raleigh Blvd., Raleigh Activity: Helping the center prepare and clean up for outdoor sporting activities. What to wear: Comfortable clothing that can get dirty. Time: 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
3. Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina
What the organization does: The Food Bank provides food to people at risk of hunger in 34 counties in central and eastern North Carolina. The Food Bank serves a network of more than 800 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and other programs for children and adults through warehouses in the area. Why volunteer: Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Food Bank’s mission. Every day, Food Bank volunteers are making a tangible contribution to our communities. Last year, volunteers logged more than154,000 hours. Location: 3808 Tarheel Drive, Raleigh Activity: Specific tasks will be determined as the date nears but will likely include working in the warehouse sorting and repackaging bulk food. What to wear: Comfortable clothing that can by layered so you can work in both a cool and warm environment. Must wear closed-toe shoes. Time: 9 a.m. – noon 4. StepUp Ministry
What the organization does: StepUp Ministry is a nonprofit that prepares adults and children to live stable and productive lives. StepUp Ministry accomplishes this through a phased program with three major focuses: job training and placement, life skills, and alumni. Why volunteer: Help StepUp accomplish its mission of helping low wage individuals find employment, gain family and financial stability, and obtain affordable housing. Location: 1701 Oberlin Road, Raleigh Activity: Indoor, office type activities, including a craft project to help prepare for the annual luncheon and preparing the annual report for mailing. What to wear: Comfortable, neat clothing. Time: 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
