A Second Chance at Rejoining Society after Incarceration An estimated 64.6 million Americans (25% of the population) have a criminal record. Of those, 19.8 million have at least one felony criminal conviction. Evidence indicates that returning citizens have substantially lower chance of being hired, which perpetuate their inability for upward mobility. There are few pathways for individuals with criminal records to earn a living and contribute to their communities, and that often leads to recidivism. While felony convictions carry perhaps the greatest stigma, even a minor record can be a life sentence to poverty in the digital era. The barriers associated with a record can have ripple effects for generations. Gainful employment is probably the most difficult thing to achieve as a returning citizen. This Courageous Conversation will highlight stories and company strategies that support returning citizens to become full participants in our economic ecosystem. From building resumes to inspiring entrepreneurs, we will learn about practices and policies that support inclusive prosperity. Questions?
