Courageous Conversation: Creating Accessible Workplaces While we have made great progress towards advancing inclusion and equity for people with disabilities in the workplace, it’s important to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to knock down the barriers that continue to keep far too many people with disabilities out of the workforce. In our Courageous Conversation this May, we will discuss the wide range of steps that businesses can take to make sure that any barriers for disabled people entering the workforce are not present. When people with disabilities don’t have opportunities to work, we all miss out. Fostering an inclusive environment that aims to raise awareness, educate employees, and implement disability policies is key. It’s not just to attract and retain this valuable talent – it’s also beneficial for business. Organizations that hire people with disabilities are shown to have 28% higher revenue, double the net income, and 30% higher economic profit margins than those that do not. Diverse thinking helps organizations and hiring people with different experiences and approaches to problems helps to increase a businesses’ understanding of the market it serves. We will hear from Kamille Richardson, founder of iSee Technologies. Her company teaches people who are blind and visually impaired how to use assistive technology in order to gain independence and connect with the world. She also provides education and consultation to corporate entities and multiple organizations on the importance of diversity and inclusion for the blind and visually impaired in the employment space as well as from the customer perspective. At this Courageous Conversation, Kamille will share her story as someone who is totally blind from birth. Her trials and triumphs through her life’s journey fuels her passion to give voice to a demographic that is often overlooked and underrecognized. Questions?
