⚡️𝙱𝚁𝙴𝙰𝙺𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙽𝙴𝚆𝚂: Santiago, Chile will host the 2027 Special Olympics World Games! The Special Olympics Board of Directors announced that in less than four years the Chilean capital will welcome over 6k athletes from 170+ nations for our first-ever World Games in the Southern Hemisphere. The Federal Government of Chile and the City of Santiago have committed a budget of approximately US$134 million to plan and deliver the World Games, which contribute to several UN Sustainable Development Goals including No Poverty, Good Health & Well-Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities, and others. The legacy of the 2027 World Games in Chile includes developing Unified Schools programming in at least 200 municipalities and 1,000 schools; increasing training about people with intellectual disabilities (ID) for law enforcement; improving education of primary healthcare professionals treating people with ID; expansion of Special Olympics Chile into all 16 regions of the country; and a series of actions to mobilize awareness and political commitment throughout Latin America. "We are very happy that our country will be the new host of a top-level global sports event: the Special Olympics 2027 World Games,” said Gabriel Boric Font, President of the Republic of Chile. “We are proud to continue promoting inclusion through sports, a new national celebration that continues to pave the way for organizing events of this nature that generate so much unity and joy at the national level. To all the athletes of the Special Olympics World Games: we await you in Chile!” More on the announcement here ▶️ https://brnw.ch/21wJ8Qa #InclusionRevolution #SpecialOlympics Special Olympics Latin America

  • Check out this very exciting partnership! “This partnership marks a significant step forward in fostering a more inclusive and equitable athletics community nationwide.” -Deran Coe, NIAAA member, Wake County District Athletic Director, SONC Board of Directors member

👏 Introducing our newest partnership! 👏 Thrilled to announce the collaboration between Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools and NIAAA - National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association! 🤝 Together, we're dedicated to enhancing athletic administrators' efforts in delivering top-notch programming for students, including those with intellectual disabilities (ID). This partnership aims to amplify ongoing initiatives in schools, particularly in offering exceptional Special Olympics Unified Sports® programs. 🏅 Unified Sports®, renowned as the most inclusive sports program worldwide, fosters teamwork between Special Olympics athletes (individuals with ID) and Unified partners (those without ID), promoting both training and competition. Embedded within the Unified Champion Schools® program, Unified Sports® serves as a pivotal element, nurturing sportsmanship, leadership, and holistic school engagement for students of all abilities. 🏀⚽ To usher in the partnership, the Special Olympics North America team traveled to NIAAA HQ to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Joining the celebration were members of Special Olympics Indiana, NFHS, and high school student-athletes and administrators from Hamilton Southeastern Schools and Carmel Clay Schools. Reflecting on the profound impact of Unified Sports, Jared, a senior and Unified track athlete at Fisher High School, shared how Unified Sports® lifted him out of depression and instilled a sense of belonging. "Everyone deserves a sporting chance, no matter who you are, regardless of disabilities. Special Olympics does the best job at that, and I'm so stinking happy to be a part of it." 🎉 For James Brown, Athletic Director at Fisher High School, inclusivity in sports is a priority. "I'm a true believer in the involvement of everybody. Everybody getting a shot, everyobody being able to participate." It's a mindset shared by Patrick Schooley, Dean of Students and Unified track coach at Fisher, who stressed the importance of administrators. "We can't do this without ADs and administrators that support us." 🏆 Executive Director of the NIAAA Phil Rison said it best..."It's important to be a part of something that is so inclusive. Our organizations working together is what is best for our students - period." A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us to commemorate this milestone with us! 🎊 #UnifiedGeneration #AthleticDirector #AthleticAdministrator
