Leadership Raleigh

Celebrating 55 years of cultivating community leaders, Leadership Raleigh stands as one of the nation’s longest-standing leadership programs. This signature ten-month experience invites around 100 leaders (across two cohorts) to engage deeply with our region through presentations, collaborative panels, immersive behind-the-scenes tours, and civic involvement.

Participants learn firsthand from regional business executives, elected officials, and non-profit leaders, gaining an in-depth understanding of our community’s challenges and opportunities in various areas. They also collaborate on team-based service projects that contribute tangible, meaningful impact across the Triangle.

Though the application period is currently closed, the program looks forward to welcoming a new cohort when applications reopen in Spring 2026.

RTA 24th Annual Meeting – The State of Mobility 2026 including the State of RDU Airport
The Regional Transportation Alliance (RTA) invites you to join more than 300 regional leaders in January 2026 for the 24th annual meeting of the metropolitan Triangle’s regional business leadership group on transportation.

This event will feature The State of RDU Airport, which will provide an update from the leadership of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority and a panel discussion with regional business leaders.

This event is a can’t-miss gathering of members of the regional business community, elected officials, transportation partners, and other leaders from across our region and state. The event includes the annual State of Mobility presentation from RTA Executive Director Joe Milazzo II, PE, as well as interactive discussion and engagement opportunities for all attendees.

Mary Ann Crandell is the Chief Executive Officer of Crandell’s Enterprises, Inc. and a highly respected business and community leader with more than 40 years of experience in strategic leadership, organizational development, and innovation. Under her guidance, Crandell’s Enterprises has grown into a trusted and influential organization, recognized for its operational excellence and commitment to service.

In 2022, Mary Ann received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award presented by former President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., honoring her extraordinary contributions to community service and leadership — the highest recognition awarded for her lifelong dedication to uplifting others and creating lasting impact.

Renowned for her visionary leadership, strong ethical foundation, and unwavering commitment to excellence, Ms. Crandell continues to inspire employees, partners, and communities alike. Her passion for service, coupled with her business acumen, remains the driving force behind the continued success and mission of Crandell’s Enterprises.

Kathryn Short has more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality and tourism industry and currently serves as National Sales Manager for the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau (Visit Raleigh). In her role, she specializes in building meaningful destination connections and helping organizations create successful, memorable meetings and events. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and recently achieved her Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation, underscoring her commitment to excellence in the meetings and events industry.

Alaksha Surti is a multi-time award-winning chef, entrepreneur, and community advocate whose passion for authentic Indian cuisine is rooted in her upbringing in Bangalore, India, where she learned traditional cooking from her mother and grandmothers. Professionally trained at the International College of Hotel Management in Adelaide, Australia, and a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School of Arts, she built an international hospitality career spanning Australia, London, Sri Lanka, Orlando, and Raleigh, including work at the Umstead Hotel and Spa and the Sheraton. After becoming a mother of three, Alaksha founded Alaksha’s Custom Catering in 2011 and later expanded her culinary vision through Curry in a Hurry, which has grown to include food trucks, brick-and-mortar locations, and innovative smart vending concepts. Deeply committed to giving back, she actively supports local charities and educational initiatives, drawing inspiration from her grandfather’s lifelong encouragement and using food as a way to serve and connect with her community.
