This month's meeting will feature Maggie Kane, Founder and Executive Director of A Place at the Table, Raleigh’s first pay-what-you-can nonprofit cafe. She graduated from NC State University in 2013 and began working for a nonprofit with people experiencing homelessness. By befriending many people living on the margins, she saw the challenges of food insecurity as well as providing dignity to those in need. In February 2015, A Place at the Table was born and Maggie never looked back. Opening in January of 2018, Table has served thousands of people in Raleigh with a dignified and an affordable meal, together. Maggie has a heart to serve, a desire to always be inclusive, and a passion for loving people.

She lives in Raleigh, loves to jump rope, and eats a large amount of peanut butter. She loves hiking in the mountains, and all things sunflowers. You’ll find her watching movies at the theaters in those big comfy chairs, skydiving, or breaking away for a quick 2-day weekend trip.

Water is key for economic development, sustainability, and the quality of life that continues to attract businesses and individuals to Wake County. The county is undergoing the 50-year One Water Plan initiative that integrates all water planning (water supply, wastewater treatment, stormwater and flood management, and groundwater protection) with County and municipal development and transportation planning.

The first two years of the plan development focused on developing a baseline assessment of water resources that was used to inform draft strategies. As the County moves into the next phase of plan development, the County is requesting input on proposed strategies from the business community and is seeking opportunities to strengthen partnerships in future water resource projects and initiatives that support a resilient and sustainable water supply for all of Wake County.

Join this interactive upskilling event as part of the Greater Raleigh Chamber’s Business Sustainability Roundtable to provide feedback to the County’s plan. During the event, Nancy Daly, Wake County Water Resources Program Manager, and Stephanie MacDurmon, Tetra Tech Water Resources Engineer, will provide some of the key takeaways and strategies the County has discovered in the first phase of the initiative, including:

Population growth and demand for water will require additional water supplies between now and 2070; municipal utilities are actively planning to meet future water supplies needs, but alternative strategies (e.g. conservation, water reuse) will be important to consider in meeting future demand.

Land use and climate change are projected to contribute to increased vulnerability of surface water and groundwater resources.

Future growth will increase nutrient loads and require close coordination between County, municipal and private entities on wastewater management strategies that meet state regulatory requirements and protect water quality.

Projected land use change shows an increase in the frequency of flooding events throughout the County's stream network.

Registration is required for this free event. This event will take place virtually via Zoom. You will receive the Zoom link 24 hours prior to the event start.
