Invitations are extended to representatives from Wake County Emergency Medical Services, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. Highway Patrol, the Raleigh-Wake County Emergency Communications Center, the City of Raleigh Fire Department, the City of Raleigh Police Department, Wake County Emergency Management, and State Capitol Police. Our program includes a keynote presentation and awards to heroes from each department for outstanding service in the previous year. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit The 200 Club of Wake County, a nonprofit that provides financial help for the spouses and children of local first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty. We’re honored to welcome Dr. Mariecely Luciano-Feijoo, Clinical Assistant Professor and Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician at UNC, as this year’s featured speaker. Dr. Luciano-Feijoo brings a rare and powerful perspective to the front lines of emergency response in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. In addition to her work in the fast-paced environment of UNC’s Emergency Department, she volunteers with a statewide rescue team through a partnership between UNC’s School of Medicine and the N.C. State Highway Patrol - rapidly deploying to emergencies and natural disasters, including swift-water rescues in some of North Carolina’s most dangerous conditions. Her dedication to emergency medicine was forged through personal and professional experience, including her time as a physician in Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maria. “I have always been drawn to faster-paced medicine,” she says, “and saw how much good there was to be done.” Whether in the ER or the field, Dr. Luciano-Feijoo exemplifies the courage, adaptability, and service-driven spirit we celebrate in our first responders - making her the ideal voice to help us honor those who serve here in the Triangle.
