We are thrilled to be part of the extraordinary preservation efforts at George Washington's Mount Vernon Mansion Revitalization Project! Recently, while working on-site, our team witnessed an incredible discovery by Mount Vernon's archaeologists. Deep in the Mansion's cellar, two perfectly preserved European-manufactured bottles, still sealed with liquid inside, were uncovered. This remarkable find sheds light on the estate's rich history and offers a glimpse into Washington's era. It's moments like these that truly make us appreciate the significance of our work in preserving our nation's heritage. Check out the link below to read more about this fascinating discovery and join us in celebrating the ongoing legacy of Mount Vernon. #Preservation #GWMountVernon #HistoricPreservation https://lnkd.in/dHVsyidk

We were honored to host CREW Detroit (East) meets CREW West Michigan (West) this week at our corporate headquarters in Lansing to hear presentations from Quentin Messer, Jr. CEcD from Michigan Economic Development Corporation and our very own Chad Clark. With almost 100 people in attendance, we had a wonderful time networking with other AEC professionals from around the state. The program concluded with a tour of the Capitol and our recently completed Heritage Hall.

When it comes to preserving the history of an iconic building, we leave no stone unturned… literally. At Michigan Central Station, much of the building’s limestone — 600 tons of it — had deteriorated from three decades of uncontrolled water into the building. Research and good teamwork led to finding the original, uniquely banded limestone source, the Dark Hollow Quarry in Bedford, Indiana. The only problem: it had closed in 1988, the same year as Michigan Central Station. Luckily, quarried blocks had been left on site, but were now surrounded by 30-year-old trees! A new access road was installed, trees removed, and truckloads of raw blocks — the largest single piece over 20 tons — were sent to Bridgeport, Michigan for fabrication. Skillfully sequenced for reinstallation, the restored limestone facade, from the front to the back of Michigan Central Station, matches perfectly with the skill of marvelous teamwork. Kudos to the teams from RAM Construction Services, Leidal & Hart Mason Contractors, Inc, Capital Stoneworks , and Indiana Limestone Company for making this happen. And a special thanks to all the trade partners working on the station; Allen Architectural Metals; BDN Industrial Hygiene Consultants, Inc.; Boston Valley Terra Cotta; CASS Sheetmetal; Commercial Contracting Corporation; Conti LLC; Denn-Co Construction, Inc.; Edwards Glass Company; EverGreene Architectural Arts, Inc.; Graciano Corporation; Grunwell-Cashero; HOMRICH; Ideal Contracting; Industrial Fence & Landscaping Company; Jablonski Building Conservation, Inc.; John E. Safety is how we live, so this week we decided to take a night shift at the Supreme Court jobsite in Washington D.C. and make it an interactive safety retreat for the full workforce on site. The Architect of the Capitol hosted us in the Supreme Court main hall exhibition area and the team all had dinner and listened to presentations on scaffolding safety, sleep deprivation and levels of care following an accident. We even put on a skit to demonstrate 20/20/20 behavior, where every 20 minutes you take 20 seconds to observe your surroundings 20 feet around you. Thanks to the AOC and the Supreme Court for their gracious use of the hall, and thanks to Lyles McBratney, Zeke Schladen, Steve Smith, Bernard O'Brien, Quentin Hausey and Steven Smith, CSP, OHST for organizing the show.

We’re passionate about more than just construction—we're avid readers too! March is National Reading Month, but we decided to keep the literary celebration going into April. Our Michigan teams have been diving into books about construction in K-12 classrooms at districts we're building for, spreading the joy of reading to students of all ages. As part of our commitment to education, we even took the opportunity to teach middle school students how to read blueprints. Here's to the power of reading and learning, all year round! One of the signature features of Michigan Central Station’s original architects Warren & Wetmore’s high-rise designs is the architectural treatment of the upper floors with arched windows, false balconies, double height columns and deep bracketed cornices. The station’s projecting cornice and decorative facade elements at the upper floors are constructed of terra cotta designed to resemble carved stone. High-resolution photos from drones were used by the design team to assess the needed repairs. Once the tower roofing had deteriorated, water infiltrated the roof and wall assemblies. Working with RAM Construction Services, Fraco Products Ltd, Ideal Contracting, Glassline, and Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union, Local 2 of Michigan, restoration of this important, character-defining feature required repair and replacement of the deteriorated steel as well as the terra cotta. Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer to recreate the cornice elements and replace damaged units. Using molds crafted from original terra cotta pieces and meticulously refining the color, we ensured the new units seamlessly blend with the original, freshly cleaned terra cotta. A huge shoutout to the remaining trade partners helping make this project happen: Allen Architectural Metals; BDN Industrial Hygiene Consultants, Inc.; Boston Valley Terra Cotta; Capital Stoneworks ; CASS Sheetmetal; Commercial Contracting Corporation; Conti LLC; Denn-Co Construction, Inc.; Edwards Glass Company; EverGreene Architectural Arts, Inc.; Graciano Corporation; Grunwell-Cashero; HOMRICH; Jablonski Building Conservation, Inc.; John E.
