Establishing Richardsonian Romanesque style | An iconic Boston landmark, Trinity Church (1877) is an exemplar of Henry Hobson Richardson’s Romanesque style which was a dramatic break from his contemporaries of the time. The style set a trend for innovative design and would go on to be emulated across the country. His design for the Episcopal church personalized his interpretations of great 11th-century French Romanesque churches and the central tower of a cathedral in Salamanca, Spain. Now a National Historic landmark, Trinity ranks consistently as one of the country’s favorite architectural works. Last week Senior Architect, Thomas Susko AIA, LEED AP BD C, and Senior Designer, Mike Gailey, were invited to help Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) staff guide a group tour of the Hale Family Building during The Center for Health Design: Pediatric Environment Network event (CHD-PEN). The two Bulfinches provided their insights from the Hale project as the group explored the various levels of the building highlighting the art installations, designated family and children's areas, and the respiteful rooftop gardens. Following the tour, both Tom and Mike had the opportunity to join industry professionals on a panel to discuss “Building the Right Team”. The discussion allowed the CHD-PEN event guests to think internally about ways to collaborate on projects across the board with construction managers architects, and internal structures within their organizations.
