What a surprise! Kishan from Coastal Credit Union stopped by to give a gift as part of their Random Acts of Kindness giveaway to support unhoused neighbors. Needless to say this brought smiles to all of our faces! Coastal Credit Union has proven an ally of our unhoused neighbors as of late, not only supporting us financially, but volunteering their time and giving Oak City Cares an outreach platform at their branches. Thank you Coastal for coming alongside our friends in need! . . . #endhomelessness #care #service #oakcity #raleigh #raleighnc #wakecounty #coastal24 #support #thankyou #gratitude

Faculty and staff from North Carolina State University's NC State Poole College of Management cleaned and organized our facility last week! We're thankful to partner with them, and we are grateful for how they are raising up our future local nonprofit leaders! . . . #endhomelessness #volunteer #ncvolunteer #ncstate #wolfpack #wakecounty #service #partnership #collaboration #community #cares #raleigh #oakcity

We recently participated in a roundtable discussion with Congresswoman Deborah Ross regarding housing affordability and related issues for renters. We want to express our gratitude to Congresswoman Ross for including Oak City Cares in this important discussion. She is a passionate listener for the members of our community about challenges we face and how we can work together to determine solutions. We honor her tireless advocacy for equality, justice and progress for constituents in her district and community. . . . #endhomelessness #raleighnc #wakecounty #partnership #service

This past week, we were able to provide 38 neighbors with eye exams and glasses thanks to In Her Vision Foundation, in partnership with Durham Technical Community College and Alliance Health. This was a service we sought out as a result of direct feedback from our guests during our quarterly community meeting, and we were eager to form this partnership to provide essential (but oftentimes difficult to access) vision care for our guests. We are always looking to bring on willing and dynamic partners to provide essential services desired by our guests. Thank you to In Her Vision for making this possible! . . . #endhomelessness #coordinatedcare #partnership #visionclinic #alliancehealth #durhamtech #inhervision #service #medicalcare #visioncare #raleigh #wakecounty #oakcity

We're excited to bring back our monthly staff spotlight! Let's hear from Devan to kick things off! You can find Devan in our Basic Needs area assisting guests with their showers and laundry. Devan's one of the first faces our friends will meet on their journey at Oak City Cares, and we appreciate the hard work and dedication he puts in to make our guests feel at home. And he always does it with a smile! 😊

We want to give a special thank you to #TruistFoundation for supporting our Financial Success Services Program with a $40,000 grant. It’s an honor to partner with such a significant presence in our region, and it excites us to see Truist coming alongside our neighbors. Truist is relieving burdens from our guests by meeting their basic needs and providing financial coaching from our Care Coordinators. We are so thankful for Truist showing up for our neighbors in such impactful ways, and we look forward to our future partnership with them! . . . #endhomelessness #raleigh #wakecounty #oakcity #financialsuccess #support #service #communitysupport

Our Executive Director, Kathryn Johnson, MS, LMFT, was invited by the National League of Cities to view a performance report presentation by Students Supporting Students (S3), who developed a resource guide for Wake County students experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and lack of access to basic needs and services. This was a very thorough presentation by local young leaders who offered a comprehensive guide to resources available to our local university students. Homelessness takes on many forms, and oftentimes individuals experiencing homelessness may fall into demographic sectors not typically associated with homelessness. As we learned, prior to this report, local students with lack of housing access or access to a reliable source of food often fell through the cracks. In light of this, we were truly impressed by local students creating such a thorough resource to help students who may find themselves under-resourced. We wanted to feature the resource booklet, which you can find at the link in our bio! Thank you NLC and S3 for all your amazing work and for looking out for local students in need!
