Furnishing Homes, Changing Lives

About us

The Green Chair Project reuses essential furnishings donated by our community to help neighbors in need facing the challenges of homelessness, crisis or disaster. Lives change when families and individuals are nurtured and sustained in well-equipped homes. We partner with more than 120 local nonprofits, government agencies, schools, and other organizations to provide home furnishings for Raleigh residents who fall below 60% of area median income (AMI) and are exiting homelessness, disaster, or crisis. Since March 2020, we’ve been helping low-income Raleigh residents prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the pandemic, residents have been encouraged to remain at home to limit the spread of COVID-19. The furnishings that Green Chair provides ensures homes are stable and healthy spaces for people to retreat, quarantine, or heal. We work to ensure our clients reside in stable, well-equipped households that nurture basic needs and mitigate poverty effects on children and their families especially during a time of crisis like COVID-19. Since 2012, over 5,000 children have received beds or cribs through the Sweeter Dreams program. Our Sweeter Dreams program provides cribs and twin beds to children from birth through school-aged at no charge, plus pillows and bedding for each bed.

Recently joy filled The Green Chair Project. Thanks to the incredible work of Urban Ministries of Wake County, a mother and her beautiful children, who had previously faced homelessness, moved into a place of their very own! The next step was to help make their place a warm, welcoming home – and we were ready to help.     Many of our clients choose their home furnishings virtually, but those who visit us in person truly enjoy the chance to select from different styled groups of furniture that creates the perfect look and feel for their family.     As the mom sat at a table, picturing mealtime in their new home, she watched her daughter hosting a tea party and her son get comfortable on the couch. In that moment, she knew she had found the perfect furniture arrangement for her family. She expressed the joy and gratitude she felt for those in the community who helped make this possible.     We’d also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donates gently used furniture and household items. Your generosity enables us to continue supporting families in need in our community.    To donate, visit: https://lnkd.in/d4hmbZiy

This Mother’s Day, join us in helping moms do what they do best; create restful and nurturing spaces for the people they love. 🌷 Support our spring goal to provide 300 families with essential household items and 500 children with a bed/crib of their own. A $250 donation will furnish a child with a comfortable bed/crib and bedding, providing peaceful nights. A $50 donation will supply a family of four with essential bath items. Every contribution, regardless of size, makes a meaningful impact. To donate visit: https://lnkd.in/etp_PKq2 Together we can #DoGoodWithGreenChair

Building a brighter, greener and more equitable future for generations to come is what Earth Week is all about. We're excited our CEO Rae Marie Czuhai got to spend the day sharing and learning about ways to drive a circular economy - the more we do, the greater the impact!

Many thanks to Kate Nangle at BASF for hosting The Green Chair Project for Earth Week. We were honored to be a part of the circular economy conversation with our colleagues from Raleigh Reclaimed and Blue Jeans Go Green. Each of these organizations make an impact by reusing, recycling, repairing or refurbishing materials and products to minimize waste. What we learned is that we are all working together to help ensure products have a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th life. #circulareconomy #dogoodwithgreenchair #earthweek2024
