Give Back at Fall Service Day

Young Professionals Network members can give back to our community, learn about a new organization, and get to know other members at the Fall Service Day. At the conclusion of the morning volunteer activities, participants can meet for lunch and share their experiences.

The following opportunities are available, but space is limited:

Salvation Army of Wake County – Christmas Warehouse
The Salvation Army Family Store serves the community by turning reusable goods into much needed funding. Proceeds generated by Family Store sales are used to give tangible assistance and offer hope to Wake County residents. And you can find great deals for yourself and your family by shopping there as well! New and gently used furniture, houseware, clothing, books, jewelry, and more are available at a fraction of retail costs.

Activity: YPN volunteers will help the Salvation Army kick off its busiest season and one of its largest and most exciting initiatives for the holidays, the Angel Tree Program. Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet and interview families and assist with registration for the Angel Tree.

Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina
The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina provides food for people at risk of hunger in 34 counties in central and eastern North Carolina, serving a network of more than 800 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults.

Activity: Join your colleagues to prepare the Food Bank donations for distribution. Teams will sort and repackage food, such as produce, canned goods, or bulk dry items that come from retail partners. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes.

Time: 9 a.m. – Noon (please note: volunteers must arrive by 9 a.m.)

Read and Feed
The mission of Read and Feed is to give low-income elementary school children an appetite for reading by strengthening literacy skills and providing encouragement in a nurturing, neighborhood environment. Using mobile classrooms, we provide meals to eliminate hunger, mentors to help children read, and books to build home libraries.

Activity: Join your fellow volunteers in the Read and Feed donation area to sort and organize books based on condition, content, and reading level. Read and Feed staff will provide guidance and criteria.
Location: Read and Feed Office, 193 High House Road, Cary
Time: 9 a.m. – Noon

Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education
The Poe Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educate and empower North Carolina children, youth, and their families to make choices that increase positive health behaviors.

Activity: Participate in general maintenance around the facility, including cleaning up their playground and garden areas.
Location: 224 Sunnybrook Road, Raleigh
Time: 9 a.m. – Noon
Number of volunteers: 15

Junior League of Raleigh
The Junior League of Raleigh is a local chapter of the Association of Junior Leagues International, an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in, and commitment to, volunteerism.

Activity: Volunteer at the Junior League of Raleigh's Bargain Box, which sells high-quality, gently-used clothing, accessories, and household items. Help hang and tag clothing to display in the store.
